Who are we ?

ELORPrintTec is the leading technology platform dedicated to printed electronics within the University of Bordeaux.

Our mission: to envision and shape the flexible and printable electronics of tomorrow. As a true center of excellence, the platform provides industrial and academic partners with state-of-the-art equipment and unique scientific expertise, fostering innovation and collaboration between research and industry.

Situated at the heart of a dynamic scientific ecosystem, ELORPrintTec offers an ideal environment to design, test, and develop the next generation of electronic devices. Its 850 m² cleanroom houses a wide range of processing and characterization equipment, enabling both the development of new materials and their integration into innovative systems.

Open to academic researchers, start-ups, and companies, the platform allows small organizations to access rare semi-industrial resources while giving industrial partners the opportunity to benefit from the latest advancements and expertise derived from fundamental and applied research.

Hosted by the University of Bordeaux and operating independently under its parent organization ADERA, ELORPrintTec is managed by the supervisory bodies of the University of Bordeaux, CNRS, and Bordeaux INP.

The History of ELORPrintTec

The ELORPrintTec journey began at the heart of an ambitious initiative driven by the Excellence Initiative (IdEx) of the University of Bordeaux, recognized under the national “Investissements d’Avenir” (MIA) program. This program aims to promote sustainable and innovative growth in higher education and research by supporting cutting-edge projects with significant international impact.

A vision: uniting science, engineering, and industry

In 2011, Professor Georges Hadziioannou envisioned a platform capable of bringing together fundamental science, engineering, and industrial partnerships to create a unique R&D environment dedicated to printed organic electronics. His goal: to make Bordeaux a global reference hub in this emerging field.

The project gained support from the MIA initiative, giving rise to ELORPrintTec—an infrastructure designed to foster innovation, technology transfer, and training in a rapidly growing domain.

Strategic investments for innovation

Thanks to funding from IdEx and co-investments from public and private partners—such as ANR, the European Union, and the UBx Foundation—ELORPrintTec was equipped with exceptional resources to carry out advanced research, train talent, and support collaborative projects with industry.

The realization of an ambitious project

In 2013, construction began on the University of Bordeaux campus. Two years later, the cleanroom was completed and the first high-tech equipment was installed. By the end of 2015, the first users accessed the facilities, and in September 2016, the platform became fully operational.

Since then, ELORPrintTec has embodied a story of collaboration and innovation, helping to establish Bordeaux as a key hub for the development of printed electronics.
